Wolfcraig Master Blender, Richard Paterson OBE, travelled to Jerez de la Frontera and meticulously selected sherry casks that had sherry soaking in them for 15 long years, for this majestic series.
Richard and Ian decided on component whiskies from distilleries that they have worked with in the past to maintain that personal connection to the spirit. Wolfcraig blends also possess a uniquely high malt to grain ratio adding depth and complexity.
To bring this whisky to the pinnacle of perfection, Richard and Ian matured their blend for a further 3 years in the distinct sherry types, each making their own inimitable contribution.
The Wolfcraig 14 epitomises the true craftsmanship of Master Blending from two of the industry’s greats.
Colour: Rich mahogany gold with flashes of radiant copper.
Tasting Notes
Nose: An aromatic avalanche of pleasure hits you immediately. It is quite evident from the elegant bouquet, age has tempered and tamed this noble spirit as it reveals distinguished facets of soft chewy caramel, crushed almonds, succulent sultanas and Christmas cake. This bounteous bouquet soon gives way to another level of luxury of bitter chocolate, Seville marmalade, liquorice stick and marzipan.
Taste: These concentrated aromas are immediately reflected on the taste. Positive and powerful yet filled with genuine charm. Thanks to the meticulous selection process from the central regions of Scotland, in particular the Speyside Valley, along with the spirit's seasoning in the finest Sherry casks, harmony prevails throughout this rare premium blend.
The palate is rewarded with a festoon of frangipane, Madagascan vanilla pod, prune syrup and hints of XO Cognac. Then seconds later another fusion of pleasure rolls onto the palate with warm flavours of rich gingerbread, moist Madeira cake, praline chocolate and cinnamon.
In view of the long years in these specially selected sherry casks, there is a delightful aftertaste of sun kissed raisins and figs to complete this compelling portrait of beauty.
