An Old Anderstonian is someone connected with Anderston, a proud Glasgow district that began on lands gifted to the Bishop of Glasgow in 1450. The Anderson family later built Stobcross House and, in 1725, granted land for weavers’ cottages — giving rise to Anderston. By the 19th century, the area thrived with arrivals from the Highlands and Ireland, drawn to industries such as shipbuilding, engineering, whisky bonds, and grain stores.

The Anderstonian motto, “Alter Alterius Auxilio Veget” — “one flourishes by the help of the other” — captures the spirit of community and resilience that built Anderston. Old Anderstonian Whisky honours this industrious heritage and celebrates the achievements of more recent alumni in sport, education, and culture.
